Not Taking Breaks At Work? Not A Good Idea . . .

Did you miss us? My apologies for the delay in our broadcast. We had some technical difficulties, apparently the wifi at our temporary location was not ideal . . .

Cocoa BeachYes, you should feel bad for us for enjoying the beach, Or you could use the picture for a mental break and imagine you were digging your toes into the nice warm sand.

Speaking of breaks, are you breaking when you eat lunch or do you see it as an opportunity to get more done during the day?  Here are a few reasons why you should be taking that time.

A Change In Your Environment Boosts Creativity

NPR reported that staying in the same environment is detrimental to creative thinking. So take a break and go somewhere else – especially outside to help keep your creativity at ideal levels.

Physical Activity Improves Your Mood

For readers of our Ergo Weekly email, this is not news. Getting up and moving regularly is important to mood and body. Use your lunch break as one of those breaks and mooooovvvveeee.

Desk Is Full of Germs

This is gross. . .research has shown the average office keyboard has more bacteria than a toilet seat, yuck. So if you eat lunch at your desk it’s like eating in a toilet. What a great reason to get a washable keyboard. There are a couple on the market. Or just clean up your desktop and keyboard on a regular basis. But still, leave your desk during lunch.

Eating More When Distracted

While you are busy checking email, working on projects you could be eating 50% more than you should. Studies have shown this can be case. So get away from your desk and think about your eating and stop when you’ve had enough.

Don’t Skip The Meal

Skipping a meal to lose weight may be counterproductive. Your body reacts to the lack of food by slowing your metabolism so not eating is not necessarily helping you lose weight. Lack of food effects your concentration as well, so eat regularly.
