You just got the image of Richard Simmons in your head didn’t you? Don’t lie.
Happy Wednesday and it’s time to get up and move. Now I know that you’ve been religiously stretching each day or getting up and going for brief walks around the office. Regardless of the weather outside there is always room in an office to do some walking.
Speaking of walking, Time recently published a review of a Denmark study that is indicating that you can push your body too much. The study is indicating that doing too much may undo the benefits of the exercise (hello all you cross fit junkies out there ! ! !). It indicated that someone who runs at a fast pace more than 3 days a week had the same risk of dying during the 12-year study as someone who was sedentary and hardly exercised at all. OK then, so we should avoid exercising?
No not at all. The study seems to indicate that too little or too much exercise raises the mortality rate so the sweet spot is in the middle. They are advocating moderate jogging or walking and what are called micro-workouts. Quick exercises that can take as little as 1 minute. We like that approach and it fits in well with the philosophy here at Ergo Weekly. Little things you can do to get up and move to stay energized, awake and productive. We are not working to get fit here, but if you do so much the better. So back to our stretching routines. We’re going to add a couple more this week. Add these to your growing repertoire of stretches that you can do during the day.
First up this week – The Almost Aerobics Reach
Extend each arm overhead and to the opposite side as you imagine Richard Simmons goading you toward a fabulous body.
Next – The “Who Cares if I’m at Work” shrug
Raise both shoulders at once up toward the ears. Drop them and repeat as you explain to your boss that you are, indeed, listening with interest.
We’re still working on those video links, maybe next week – stay tuned to this channel.
