Welcome to IDI

We do appreciate you taking the time to check us out. We don't like our time wasted and we'll work to make sure that yours is not either.  A note about style:  You'll likely find that this site is not a "corporate site." There is nothing wrong with that but that's not us or our fearless leader, The Furniture Guy's style. It's important that you get a feel for how IDI works and being ourselves is a really big part of that.

This is a place holder for a Welcome Video.  If it's not here - then it's still being worked on :)

Matthew Brooks (The Furniture Guy)

  • 45 year veteran of the commercial office industry and not going anywhere.
  • Having too much fun helping clients with their challenges related to their offices and furniture.
  • Wants to help clients have an enjoyable time if not a fun one when it comes to furniture, moving or changes in the office.
  • Deep understanding that change is somewhere between uncomfortable and deeply painful for people - he respects that and works to provide as much comfort as possible.

About IDI . . .

IDI was started in August of 1993 - yep a long time ago - it started as a 3-person "Design - Furnish" firm that offered interior design, architecture and furniture. Shortly after 2000 it changed to a one person Furniture (primarily) firm as the other partners left to follow other paths.

As it thrived and grew a variety of services and products have been added to the operation to make it a "full" service firm. Some of the services are different than what you might find elsewhere.  So let's explore some of these.  Where there is more details on a service you'll find a link to that service.  The site is continually being updated so if a link doesn't exist yet - it will soon.

Space Planning

This is a service that is offered to all clients but typically is used by existing clients. Most space planning is be done by a design firm that is associated with a building the company is considering leasing from.  These are generally block plans showing rectangles of offices, cubes, social areas, lobbies etc.

We have found it useful for clients if we add more detail to the plans. And, since we have their existing furniture details it is very easy to provide this more detailed view of a potential space. If you'd like to see some examples drop us a note at the address below and we'll get a sample packet to you.

Existing Office Changes & Planning

If you're ready or need to make some alterations to your office we can help.

  • From exploring options
  • To adding details
  • Including making changes to your furniture
  • All work is done in AutoCAD so it is easy to make alterations and provide all required parties the information

Furniture Drawings and 3 D Views

As mentioned all drawings are done in AutoCAD and we use a furniture specification program that runs on CAD.

Side note:  If you don't have an AutoCAD compatible drawing of your space - we're going to develop one - even if it's only one office.

All drawings are done in house - even the big ones. This usually provides a faster turn-around, as there are hours after 5 pm or before 8 am available for some of these activities.

The furniture spec program we use allows for easy visualization of an office or a whole space so that you clearly see how the space will look.

This can be a game changer for many clients as not everyone has the ability to visualize what a 2 dimensional paper plan will look like in 3D

Installation Management

If you ever bought something and had the delivery or installation crew show up and wonder what they're doing there you need to question the process that got them there and on your next project use IDI.

On virtually all jobs we are present to oversee the entire process and make sure it goes to plan.  I'm not sure anyone else can say this.

And, we generally vacuum the work space before, during and after the installation to keep things neat and tidy. Matt's mother told him the sign of a good crew was how clean they kept the space - and we believe mom was right.

Office Furniture Philosophy

The title of Chief Client Happiness Officer has been bestowed on Matthew Brooks (The Furniture Guy) as a way of stating that your Happiness is of paramount importance.

From the service oriented approach in developing every project to the hands-on management and implementation your happiness is the ultimate end result that we have in mind.

At IDI you have one person that you can talk to and he's available pretty much 24/7/365.  Ok really how about more like 12/7/365 - you have to spend time with family, has he told you about his Grand Daughters yet? And there is also a need for sleep - but otherwise very available to make sure your needs are taken care of.

Ready?  Let's talk.

New Project Budgeting

This particular service is very unique.  Not the idea of budgeting but how it is done at IDI.

If it's been while since you've bought office furniture you're likely to go through sticker shock at what things cost.

In our experience most people in this industry will provide "a" budget, i.e. one price for a project. This is very short-sighted as there are usually many options that can be explored to accomplish the same end result.

IDI's budget will consist of 3 different prices. Each price will represent a different type or level of furniture so that you have any idea of the range.  This is not a good, better, best situation but a low, medium and high.  We go into more detail on our Furniture Project Budget Page (HERE), check it out.

Project Scheduling

A big part of a project is the scheduling - who is needed, when, doing what and for how long.

IDI is adept at providing the oversight needed to set up, implement and manage interior office changes. The difference is that we are working from the client perspective with the end result in mind.

Even on large projects where there are project managers a plenty, we've seen the client get lost in the shuffle. This usually happens where office moves, build-outs and changes happen infrequently. Too many professionals don't take the time to make sure the client is on-board and understands what is going on.  This is where IDI can be like a warm blanket in the cold to  bring understanding, education and making sure everything is clearly understood.

Administrative Functions

Ahh yes, the dreaded "back office details."

From dealing with the manufacturers, to the warehouse(s) and installation crews, everything is handled in house.

With the advantage of using custom designed databases to handle the bulk of administrative functions if you need a report or invoice to have specific details we can customize this for you to fit your systems.

Also, all of our paperwork looks like it was written by a human not a short-hand computer. We pride ourselves on making certain you know what you're buying.

Move Coordination / Relocation Management

In the same way that installations are handled, the service of Move Coordination and Relocation Management is extremely hands on.

Keeping your operation running and growing is your job. IDI's job is to make sure the move of your company has the least amount of impact on your staff and clients/customers.

A custom database has been built to help with this service - I know you're asking how many of these do you have?  Just enough to make life flow smoothly for the client and IDI.

You can find more details about our complete Move Coordination Services (HERE).
